Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (113 grams)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (60 grams)
  • 4 cups low-sodium chicken or beef broth (960 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (5 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (5 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (1 gram)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (optional, 15 ml)
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour, blending until smooth to form a roux.
  3. Cook until the mixture turns golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Gradually add the broth, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  5. Increase heat to medium-high and bring to a simmer.
  6. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  7. Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  8. If gravy is too thick, add more broth; if too thin, simmer longer.
  9. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
  10. Optional: Stir in soy sauce for added flavor.
  11. Ladle over your favorite dish and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
