Ingredients:

  • 3-4 pounds beef brisket (flat cut preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional for sweetness)

Instructions:

  1. Pat the brisket dry with paper towels. Rub olive oil over the surface of the brisket. Combine salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub the spice mixture generously over the brisket.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on each side for about 3-4 minutes until browned. This adds depth of flavor.
  3. Place the brisket in the crock pot. In a bowl, mix barbecue sauce, beef broth, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar. Pour over the brisket.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours, until the brisket is fork-tender.
  5. Transfer the brisket to a cutting board and let rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  6. Optionally, reduce the cooking liquid on the stove to thicken the sauce, then serve alongside sliced brisket.
