Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of sourdough bread (about 170 g)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (28 g), softened
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (about 120 g)
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (about 60 g)
  • Pinch of garlic powder for seasoning (optional)
  • Fresh herbs (like basil or thyme) for added flavor (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Grate the mozzarella and cheddar cheese if using whole blocks. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
  2. Place non-buttered side of 2 slices of bread on a clean surface. Evenly distribute the mozzarella and cheddar cheese on top of the bread.
  3. Season with garlic powder and herbs if desired. Top with remaining bread slices, buttered side facing out.
  4. Preheat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  5. Place the sandwiches in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip.
  6. Cook the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes until cheese is melted and bread is crispy.
  7. Remove from skillet and let cool slightly. Cut in half and serve warm.
