Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups (180g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
- ¾ cup (1 ½ sticks, 170g) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4 medium (about 600g) apples, peeled, cored, and diced (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Braeburn)
- ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- ¼ teaspoon ground cloves
- ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (50g) rolled oats (not instant)
- ½ cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
- 6 tablespoons (85g) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
- Line the 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- Combine flour, brown sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
- While the crust is baking, combine diced apples, granulated sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves in a large bowl. Toss to coat.
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Spread the apple filling evenly over the partially baked crust. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apple filling.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crumble topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
- Let the bars cool completely in the pan before lifting them out using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into bars and serve.
