Ingredients:
- 1 (12 ounce/340g) can Spam, diced finely
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced finely (about 1 cup / 150g)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 teaspoons)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (15 ml)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (30 ml)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (15 ml)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed (15 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (2 g)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (1 g)
- Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley (optional)
- 1 (14.1 ounce/400g) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Sauté onion and garlic in oil until softened. Add diced Spam and cook until lightly browned.
- Stir in soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from heat and stir in parsley (if using). Let cool slightly.
- Unfold puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Spread the Spam mixture evenly over the puff pastry sheet.
- Roll the puff pastry tightly into a log. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 15 minutes to firm up.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Slice the chilled roll into approximately 1-inch thick rounds. Place slices on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds during the last 5 minutes of baking if desired.
- Let cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.
