Ingredients:
- 4 quarts (3.8 liters) water
- 2 pounds (900g) raw, in-shell peanuts (green or mature)
- 1 cup (235g) kosher salt
- Optional: 1 tablespoon (7g) Cajun seasoning
- Optional: red pepper flakes to taste
- Optional: garlic powder to taste
Instructions:
- Rinse the raw peanuts thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
- Combine the water, salt, and optional seasonings in a stockpot. Stir until the salt is completely dissolved.
- Add the rinsed peanuts to the brine. Ensure they are fully submerged. Weigh them down with a plate if needed.
- Bring the brine to a rolling boil over high heat.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and simmer for 2-4 hours, or until the peanuts reach your desired level of tenderness. Check frequently and add water if needed.
- Remove a peanut from the pot using a slotted spoon. Allow it to cool slightly, then crack it open and taste. Continue simmering if they are still too firm.
- Once the peanuts are cooked to your liking, drain them in a colander. Serve warm. Boiled Peanuts History and Recipe.
