Ingredients:

  • 4 cups raw, unroasted peanuts (in the shell) or green peanuts (in the shell)
  • 1 cup kosher salt (or sea salt)
  • 12 cups water
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the raw or green peanuts thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris.
  2. Place the rinsed peanuts, salt, water, and red pepper flakes (if using) into the slow cooker. Ensure the peanuts are fully submerged in the water.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-12 hours. Cooking time will vary depending on the size and type of peanuts and your desired level of softness.
  4. After 8 hours, start testing the peanuts for doneness. They should be tender and easily pierced with a fork. If they're not soft enough, continue cooking for another 1-2 hours, checking periodically.
  5. Once the peanuts are cooked to your liking, drain off the salty water. Serve warm, either immediately or refrigerate for later.
