Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450 g) fresh or frozen edamame in pods
  • 1 tablespoon (15 g) coarse sea salt (for boiling water)
  • Additional flaky sea salt or kosher salt, for finishing (to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes or chili oil (optional)
  • 1 clove garlic, finely minced (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add 1 tablespoon of coarse sea salt.
  2. Add the edamame pods to the boiling salted water. Boil for 5 to 7 minutes until tender but still slightly firm.
  3. Using a slotted spoon or tongs, drain the edamame and transfer to a serving bowl.
  4. Immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt to taste and toss to coat evenly.
  5. Optionally drizzle with toasted sesame oil, or sprinkle with garlic and chili flakes. Toss gently to combine.
  6. Serve warm or at room temperature. Pop the beans out of the pods with your teeth and enjoy.
