Ingredients:
- 12 large pretzel rods (approximately 8-10 inches long)
- 120g high quality dark chocolate chips (4 oz)
- 1 teaspoon vegetable shortening (optional, for smoother chocolate)
- 12 whole almonds, blanched (for fingernails)
- Red food coloring gel (just a tiny dab)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100g)
- 2 tablespoons light corn syrup (30ml)
- 2 tablespoons water (30ml)
- Blue food coloring (gel or liquid)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Edible Glass (Optional): Combine sugar, corn syrup, and water in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Increase heat and cook without stirring until the mixture turns a light amber color. Quickly stir in a drop or two of blue food coloring. Pour onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let cool completely until hard. Once cool, carefully break into small shards.
- Melt the Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate chips and shortening (if using) in a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
- Bloody Dip: Dip each pretzel rod into the melted chocolate, leaving about 2-3 inches of the bottom exposed (to resemble a bone). Tap off excess chocolate.
- Apply the Nail: While the chocolate is still wet, press a blanched almond onto one end of the chocolate-covered pretzel rod to resemble a fingernail.
- Add the Glass: While the chocolate is still wet, insert the edible glass shard into the top of the finger (where the tip would be severed). Use a toothpick to mix the red food coloring into the dark chocolate. You may need to apply small droplets for it to appear like the glass shard just severed the finger.
- Set the Fingers: Place the dipped pretzel rods on a parchment-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for about 20-30 minutes, or until the chocolate is set.
