Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
  • 2 teaspoons fresh sage, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork and ground beef.
  2. Add salt, black pepper, maple syrup, sage, thyme, red pepper flakes, nutmeg, and minced garlic.
  3. Using your hands or a spatula, mix the ingredients until evenly combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.
  4. Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. After chilling, divide the mixture into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.
  6. Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Add a little oil if necessary to prevent sticking.
  7. Cook the patties for 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  8. Remove the patties and place them on paper towels to absorb any excess fat. Serve hot!
