Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground pork
- 1/2 pound ground beef
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
- 2 teaspoons fresh sage, chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 clove garlic, minced
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork and ground beef.
- Add salt, black pepper, maple syrup, sage, thyme, red pepper flakes, nutmeg, and minced garlic.
- Using your hands or a spatula, mix the ingredients until evenly combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the patties tender.
- Cover the mixing bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- After chilling, divide the mixture into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick.
- Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Add a little oil if necessary to prevent sticking.
- Cook the patties for 5-7 minutes on each side or until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Remove the patties and place them on paper towels to absorb any excess fat. Serve hot!
