Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) caramel candy squares, unwrapped (Werther's Originals or similar)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • 2-3 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji work well)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) lemon juice
  • ½ cup (60g) chopped pecans, walnuts, or other nuts (optional)
  • ½ cup (60g) crushed pretzels (optional)
  • ½ cup (60g) mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • ½ cup (60g) sprinkles (optional)
  • Sea salt flakes (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Wash and dry apples. Core and slice into ½-inch thick slices. Toss apple slices with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  2. Combine caramel squares and heavy cream/milk in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and fully melted. Stir in vanilla extract and salt.
  3. Pour desired toppings into separate small bowls (optional).
  4. Dip each apple slice into the melted caramel, coating well. Use a spoon to help coat if needed.
  5. Immediately dip the caramel-covered apple slice into your desired toppings (optional). Alternatively, sprinkle toppings over the caramel.
  6. Place coated apple slices on parchment paper or wax paper. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the caramel to set.
  7. Remove from the fridge and serve chilled.
