Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (400g) long-grain white rice (e.g., Basmati or Jasmine)
  • 4 cups (960ml) water (or broth for added flavor)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil or unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) salt (adjust to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Place the rice in a sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine rinsed rice, water (or broth), olive oil (or butter), and salt.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat until it reaches a rolling boil.
  4. Once boiling, lower the heat to a simmer and cover the pan with a lid.
  5. Simmer for 15-20 minutes without lifting the lid.
  6. Remove the pan from the heat and let it sit for 5 minutes; then, check if the water is absorbed and rice is fluffy.
  7. Use a fork to gently fluff the rice before serving.
