Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) Basmati Rice, rinsed well
  • 1 ¾ cups (420ml) Water
  • ½ teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter or Olive Oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water until the water runs clear (about 2-3 minutes). This removes excess starch.
  2. Transfer the rinsed rice to a bowl. Cover with cool water and let it soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps the grains cook evenly and become more fluffy. Drain the rice thoroughly after soaking.
  3. In the saucepan, combine the drained rice, water, salt, and butter or olive oil (if using).
  4. Bring the mixture to a rapid boil over medium-high heat.
  5. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting, cover the saucepan tightly with the lid, and simmer gently for 15 minutes. Important: Do not lift the lid during this time!
  6. After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat and let it stand, still covered, for 10 minutes. This allows the rice to finish steaming and ensures it's perfectly cooked.
  7. Gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains. Serve immediately.
