Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1/2 lb (225g) ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped (approx. 1/2 cup)
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk
  • 1 cup (45g) panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) beef broth
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Soak the panko breadcrumbs in milk until softened. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, salt, pepper, allspice, and nutmeg.
  3. Gently mix all ingredients until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Roll the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides. Reduce heat to medium and cook until cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F/74°C). Remove meatballs and set aside.
  6. Melt butter in the same skillet. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
  7. Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth. Bring to a simmer.
  8. Stir in heavy cream, soy sauce, and Dijon mustard. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer until thickened.
