Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) Basmati Rice, preferably aged
  • 2 cups (475ml) Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon (14g) Unsalted Butter or Oil (optional, for extra flavour)

Instructions:

  1. Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse thoroughly under cold running water until the water runs clear (about 2-3 minutes). This removes excess starch, preventing stickiness.
  2. Add the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter (if using) to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, uncovered.
  4. Once boiling, reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting, cover the saucepan with the tight-fitting lid, and simmer gently for 15 minutes. Do NOT lift the lid during this time!
  5. After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat without lifting the lid. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the rice to steam and fully absorb any remaining moisture.
  6. After the resting period, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains. Serve immediately.
