Ingredients:
- 1 cup (200g) Basmati Rice, preferably aged
- 2 cups (475ml) Water
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt (or to taste)
- 1 tablespoon (14g) Unsalted Butter or Oil (optional, for extra flavour)
Instructions:
- Place the basmati rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse thoroughly under cold running water until the water runs clear (about 2-3 minutes). This removes excess starch, preventing stickiness.
- Add the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter (if using) to the saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, uncovered.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to the lowest possible setting, cover the saucepan with the tight-fitting lid, and simmer gently for 15 minutes. Do NOT lift the lid during this time!
- After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat without lifting the lid. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the rice to steam and fully absorb any remaining moisture.
- After the resting period, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains. Serve immediately.
