Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend for moisture)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian)
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, sauté the finely chopped onion over medium heat until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, sautéed onion, milk, eggs, minced garlic, salt, pepper, oregano, thyme, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix until just combined.
- Spread the mixture evenly in a greased baking dish, forming a loaf shape.
- In a small bowl, mix together ketchup and brown sugar. Spread this mixture evenly over the meatloaf.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle cheddar cheese evenly over the top, then return to the oven.
- Bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
