Ingredients:

  • 1 large French Baguette (approx. 12-14 inches)
  • 5 oz Pizza Sauce (150 g)
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder (optional)
  • 5 oz Low-Moisture Mozzarella Cheese (140 g), sliced into thin strips
  • 6–8 small Black Olives, sliced for eyes
  • Pinch of Salt and Black Pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C / Gas Mark 6). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette lengthwise down the middle, creating two long halves.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, combine the pizza sauce, dried oregano, garlic powder (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Slice the block of mozzarella cheese into thin strips, approximately 1/4 inch (6mm) wide and 2-3 inches long, ready to form the mummy bandages.
  5. Place the baguette halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 3–4 minutes until lightly toasted. This prevents a soggy base. Remove from the oven.
  6. Spread the seasoned tomato sauce evenly across the toasted surface of both baguette halves, leaving a small 1/2-inch border around the crust edge.
  7. Lay the strips of mozzarella cheese diagonally across the sauce, overlapping and crisscrossing them to resemble mummy bandages. Crucially, leave a small, uncovered gap near the top of the bread for the eyes.
  8. Place two olive slices in the exposed gap created in the previous step. These form the mummy's eyes staring through the cheese bandages.
  9. Return the sheet to the preheated oven. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted, bubbly, and the tips of the cheese strips are just starting to turn light golden brown.
  10. Carefully remove the pizzas from the oven. Let them rest on the sheet for 1–2 minutes before slicing crosswise into individual servings. Serve immediately while piping hot.
