Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • Fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until frothy (about 5-10 minutes).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Make a well in the dry ingredients, add yogurt, oil, and the frothy yeast mixture.
  4. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough, divide into 8 equal pieces, and roll each into a ball. Roll out into ovals (about 1/4 inch thick).
  7. Preheat your skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
  8. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle fresh herbs, if desired.
