Ingredients:

  • 1 (750ml) bottle dry Spanish red wine (Rioja, Garnacha/Grenache preferred)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) brandy
  • ½ cup (120 ml) orange liqueur (e.g., Cointreau, Triple Sec)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) orange juice, freshly squeezed is best
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved and cooled) OR substitute agave nectar
  • 1 orange, sliced into rounds
  • 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
  • 1 lime, sliced into rounds
  • 1 apple, cored and chopped
  • 1 pear, cored and chopped
  • 1 cup (approx. 150g) strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 liter (approx. 4 cups) chilled club soda or sparkling water

Instructions:

  1. Chop all the fruits as specified in the ingredient list.
  2. In the large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, and simple syrup. Stir well to combine.
  3. Add all the chopped fruit to the pitcher. Gently stir to combine with the liquid.
  4. Cover the pitcher tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  5. Just before serving, slowly pour in the chilled club soda or sparkling water. Stir gently to combine. Be careful not to over-stir, as this will flatten the bubbles.
  6. Serve the sangria over ice, making sure each glass gets a good helping of fruit. Garnish with extra fruit slices, if desired.
