Ingredients:
- 1 (750ml) bottle dry Spanish red wine (Rioja, Garnacha/Grenache preferred)
- 1 cup (240 ml) brandy
- ½ cup (120 ml) orange liqueur (e.g., Cointreau, Triple Sec)
- ½ cup (120 ml) orange juice, freshly squeezed is best
- ¼ cup (60 ml) simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved and cooled) OR substitute agave nectar
- 1 orange, sliced into rounds
- 1 lemon, sliced into rounds
- 1 lime, sliced into rounds
- 1 apple, cored and chopped
- 1 pear, cored and chopped
- 1 cup (approx. 150g) strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 liter (approx. 4 cups) chilled club soda or sparkling water
Instructions:
- Chop all the fruits as specified in the ingredient list.
- In the large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, orange juice, and simple syrup. Stir well to combine.
- Add all the chopped fruit to the pitcher. Gently stir to combine with the liquid.
- Cover the pitcher tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, ideally overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Just before serving, slowly pour in the chilled club soda or sparkling water. Stir gently to combine. Be careful not to over-stir, as this will flatten the bubbles.
- Serve the sangria over ice, making sure each glass gets a good helping of fruit. Garnish with extra fruit slices, if desired.
