Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg
  • Water (enough to cover egg)
  • 1/2 teaspoon white vinegar (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Fill a saucepan with enough water to cover the egg by at least 1 inch. Add vinegar and salt, if using.
  2. Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Carefully lower the egg into the boiling water using a slotted spoon.
  4. Immediately reduce the heat to a gentle simmer. Set a timer for 6 minutes for a very runny yolk.
  5. Prepare a bowl of ice water.
  6. Once the timer goes off, immediately remove the egg from the hot water with a slotted spoon and transfer it to the ice bath. Let them cool for at least 1 minute.
  7. Gently tap the egg all over to crack the shell. Peel the egg and serve immediately.
