Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup Celery Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Paprika (Sweet or Hungarian)
  • 1 tablespoon Ground Black Pepper (freshly ground is best)
  • 1 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Mace or Nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cloves

Instructions:

  1. Measure all dry spices (excluding celery salt) and place them into a small mixing bowl.
  2. Optional Toasting Step: If desiring deeper flavor, spread the measured spices (excluding celery salt) onto a dry skillet over medium-low heat. Toast for 3–5 minutes, stirring constantly, until fragrant. Remove immediately and let cool completely.
  3. Using a whisk or fork, vigorously mix all the measured ingredients together until the color is uniform and no single spice is visible in clumps.
  4. Once cooled (if toasted), add the celery salt to the spice mix and whisk again until fully incorporated. This ensures the base flavor is distributed evenly.
  5. Transfer the completed Homemade Old Bay Seasoning blend into an airtight storage container. Label clearly and store in a cool, dark place.
