Ingredients:

  • 1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
  • 4 tablespoons (60 g) unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment. Open the can of sweetened condensed milk.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, add granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until it begins to melt and turns a golden amber color (about 5-7 minutes).
  3. Once the sugar reaches the desired color, quickly add the unsalted butter. Stir until completely melted and combined, about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Carefully pour the sweetened condensed milk into the saucepan, whisking vigorously to combine. Continue cooking for about 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in sea salt and vanilla extract. Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes before transferring it to a heat-resistant container.
