Ingredients:
- 1 can (14 oz / 397 g) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- 4 tablespoons (60 g) unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
- Gather all ingredients and equipment. Open the can of sweetened condensed milk.
- In a medium-sized saucepan, add granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until it begins to melt and turns a golden amber color (about 5-7 minutes).
- Once the sugar reaches the desired color, quickly add the unsalted butter. Stir until completely melted and combined, about 1-2 minutes.
- Carefully pour the sweetened condensed milk into the saucepan, whisking vigorously to combine. Continue cooking for about 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in sea salt and vanilla extract. Allow the sauce to cool for a few minutes before transferring it to a heat-resistant container.
