Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs Mixed Apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, and Fuji), cored and chopped
  • 0.5 cup Water
  • 2 Whole Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 1 pinch Sea Salt

Instructions:

  1. Core the apples and chop them into uniform 1-inch chunks, leaving the skins on for added fiber and color.
  2. Place the apple chunks into a 6-quart crock pot. Add water, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and sea salt. Toss until the apples are evenly coated, then nestle the cinnamon sticks into the mixture.
  3. Cover and cook on High for 4 hours (or Low for 8 hours) until the apples are translucent and fall apart easily with a fork.
  4. Remove and discard the whole cinnamon sticks.
  5. For a chunky texture, use a potato masher to crush the fruit. For a velvety smooth sauce, use an immersion blender directly in the pot until the desired consistency is reached.
