Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240 ml) Boiling Water, freshly boiled
- 5 - 2 fl oz (45 – 60 ml) Quality Whisky (Bourbon, Irish, or Scotch)
- 1 Tbsp (15 ml) Fresh Lemon Juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 Tbsp (15 ml) Honey (local if possible)
- 1 Cinnamon Stick, for stirring and aroma
- 1 Fresh Lemon Wheel/Wedge
- 3 - 5 Whole Cloves (optional)
Instructions:
- Boil the Water: Fill the kettle and bring the water to a rolling boil.
- Prep the Mug: Crucially, fill your serving mug with hot tap water for 30 seconds, then pour it out. This pre-warms the mug, keeping your Hot Toddy hot for longer.
- Prepare the Garnish: If using cloves, press them into the skin of the lemon wedge or wheel and set aside.
- Combine the Base: Into the pre-warmed mug, pour the honey and the fresh lemon juice.
- Add the Spirit: Measure and add the whisky directly over the honey and lemon mixture.
- Dissolve and Combine: Pour the piping hot boiling water into the mug. Stir vigorously with a spoon or the cinnamon stick until the honey is completely dissolved. The liquid should be clear.
- Garnish and Serve: Place the cinnamon stick back into the mug for flavour infusion. Perch the spiced lemon wedge on the rim or float it in the drink. Serve immediately while still steaming.
