Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 for optimal moisture)
  • 1/2 cup (50g) breadcrumbs (fresh or dried)
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp (5g) Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp (30g) unsalted butter
  • 8 oz (225g) mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 cup (240ml) beef broth
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp (8g) all-purpose flour (for thickening)
  • 1 tsp (5g) Dijon mustard
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into oval patties.
  3. Heat skillet over medium heat and add a drizzle of oil. Cook patties for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and add sliced mushrooms. Sauté until mushrooms are browned (about 5 minutes). Sprinkle flour over mushrooms, stirring for 1 minute.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth and soy sauce; simmer until thickened. Stir in Dijon mustard and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
  6. Return cooked patties to skillet, spoon gravy over them, and simmer for a few minutes. Garnish with parsley, if desired. Serve hot.
