Ingredients:

  • 6 medium apples (approximately 2 lbs / 900 g), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (55 g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp (8 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup (90 g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup (90 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (113 g) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel, core, and slice apples. Toss apples with granulated sugar, light brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice until evenly coated.
  2. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a 9x9 inch baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, combine rolled oats, all-purpose flour, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter cubes and mix until the topping resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples and bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until the topping is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  5. Let the apple crisp cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
