Ingredients:
- 4 slices of sourdough bread (about 280 g)
- 4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese (approximately 240 g)
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (about 30 g)
- 1 ripe tomato, sliced (optional, about 150 g)
- 1 ripe avocado, sliced (optional)
- Fresh basil leaves, to taste (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the skillet over medium heat.
- Spread one tablespoon of softened butter on one side of each slice of bread.
- Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, in the skillet.
- Layer two slices of cheese on each slice of bread. Optionally add sliced tomato, avocado, or basil on top of the cheese.
- Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes, checking occasionally for golden brown color.
- Flip the sandwiches carefully using the spatula.
- Cook the second side for an additional 3-4 minutes until golden and the cheese is melted.
- Remove from skillet and allow to cool slightly before slicing.
