Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) granulated white sugar
  • 1 large (50g) egg
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) flaky sea salt

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, stir together the softened butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until the mixture is smooth and pale.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Stir vigorously until the batter looks glossy and well-combined.
  3. Sift in the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir gently with a spatula just until no streaks of flour remain.
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
  5. Use a cookie scoop to create balls of about 1 tablespoon each.
  6. Place the dough balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving 2 inches of space between each.
  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 9–11 minutes, removing them when edges are barely golden but centers look slightly soft.
  8. Let the cookies rest on the hot baking sheet for 5 minutes to allow the centers to set.
