Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces (60 ml) Bourbon (Kentucky Straight Bourbon recommended)
  • 1 Sugar Cube (or 1 teaspoon/5 ml simple syrup)
  • 2-3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) Bourbon (A slightly spicier high-rye bourbon works well here)
  • 4 ounces (120 ml) Ginger Ale or Ginger Beer
  • 1/2 ounce (15 ml) Lime Juice, freshly squeezed (optional but highly recommended)
  • 2 ounces (60 ml) Bourbon (a lighter wheated bourbon works best)
  • 4 ounces (120 ml) Sweet Vermouth (Italian, red)
  • Orange peel, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Muddle: If using a sugar cube, place it in an Old Fashioned glass. Add the Angostura bitters and a splash of water. Muddle until the sugar is mostly dissolved. If using simple syrup, skip this step and add the bitters and syrup directly to the glass.
  2. Add Bourbon: Pour the bourbon into the glass.
  3. Add Ice: Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  4. Stir: Stir gently until well-chilled.
  5. Garnish: Garnish with an orange peel (optional). Express the oils of the peel over the drink before dropping it in.
  6. Combine: In a glass filled with ice, pour the bourbon, ginger ale/ginger beer, and lime juice (if using).
  7. Stir: Stir gently to combine.
  8. Garnish: Garnish with a lime wedge or candied ginger (optional).
  9. Combine: Fill a mixing glass with ice. Add the bourbon and sweet vermouth.
  10. Stir: Stir well until chilled.
  11. Strain: Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass (or a rocks glass filled with ice).
  12. Garnish: Garnish with an orange peel (optional).
