  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Form the dough into a disk and wrap in plastic wrap.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick.
  9. Cut out cookies with desired shapes and place them on prepared baking sheets lined with parchment.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are lightly golden.
  11. Let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  12. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips in 15-second intervals until smooth. Add oil if needed for drizzling.
  13. Transfer melted chocolate to a piping bag or resealable bag with a corner snipped off.
  14. Drizzle chocolate onto cooled cookies in a spider web pattern, starting from the center and working outward.
  15. Optional: Top with edible candy spiders before chocolate sets.
