Ingredients:

  • 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced (about 4 medium apples, ~600 grams)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2 grams)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml)
  • 1 box (15.25 oz or 432 grams) yellow cake mix
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (170 grams; approximately 1.5 sticks)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional; ~60 grams)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until apples are well coated. Transfer to the baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, pour the cake mix and add the melted butter. Stir until the mixture is crumbly. If using, incorporate chopped nuts for added texture.
  4. Evenly sprinkle the cake mix topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.
  5. Place the dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally topped with ice cream.
