Ingredients:
- 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced (about 4 medium apples, ~600 grams)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (50 grams)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (2 grams)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (15 ml)
- 1 box (15.25 oz or 432 grams) yellow cake mix
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted (170 grams; approximately 1.5 sticks)
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional; ~60 grams)
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Toss until apples are well coated. Transfer to the baking dish.
- In a separate bowl, pour the cake mix and add the melted butter. Stir until the mixture is crumbly. If using, incorporate chopped nuts for added texture.
- Evenly sprinkle the cake mix topping over the apple filling in the baking dish.
- Place the dish in the preheated oven. Bake for 30 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm, optionally topped with ice cream.
