Ingredients:

  • 1 (14 ounce/397g) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 cups (200g) roasted, unsalted almonds, roughly chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl (or saucepan over low heat), combine sweetened condensed milk and granulated sugar.
  3. Microwave on high in 1-minute intervals, stirring well after each interval, until sugar is dissolved and mixture is smooth. Alternatively, heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until smooth (approx. 5 minutes).
  4. Remove from microwave/heat. Stir in the chopped roasted almonds and vanilla extract until evenly distributed.
  5. Pour the nougat mixture into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing gently, and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours, or until firm.
  7. Once firm, lift the nougat from the pan using the parchment paper overhang. Cut into squares or bars with a sharp knife.
